North Beach, Maryland.   The Chesapeake Bay Bridge first opened in 1952 allowing travelers to access the Atlantic Ocean beaches. Before the bridge opening, people from the Washington, D.C. area would take their weekend retreats (often via train) to the western coast of the Chesapeake Bay and one of the most popular of those was North Beach in Calvert County.  The half-mile long waterfront  Boardwalk hosts beautiful  coastal homes and shops, restaurants, bakeries and more!  Here folks stroll along the iconic Boardwalk in North Beach.  Photo taken in Spring, 2018. 

Moving to Calvert County was one of the best decisions I ever made.  It is within commuting distance to Washington, DC (we are about 50 minutes South), but  it is still rural enough to have farm tractors driving down the road during rush hour.   Calvert County has fantastic "blue ribbon" schools as well! This photo was taken in my neighborhood, at sunset, on a warm Spring evening in April.

Huntingtown, Maryland.  Population 3311 (as of 2010).  Huntington is a small town, approximately 45 minutes Southeast of Washington, DC.  Huntingtown has a "livability score" of "76".  It is ranked #90 in the State of Maryland and #3696 in the United States. http://www.areavibes.com/huntingtown-md/livability/   Some notable residents of Huntingown are:  Tom Clancy ( April 12, 1947 – October 1, 2013)   author of bestselling political thrillers.  Doug Hill,  ABC Channel 7 weatherman, and Harry Krause , Baseball Player . Huntingtown is a town located in Calvert County, part of Maryland's Southern area along the Chesapeake Bay.  Calvert County has over 2,000 barns still standing.  This number is high, considering Calvert is one of the smallest Counties in the State. This photo is of one of the barns here in Huntingtown.  I see this barn and it's residents, on my daily walks.

The  Williamsburg Bridge  is a suspension bridge in New York City over the  East River , connecting Brooklyn’s  Williamsburg area  to the  Lower East Side  in Manhattan at Delancey Street, and was the second one built across the East River. Built in 1903, it was the  longest suspension bridge in the world  at the time at over 1000 feet long .  Currently the bridge transports about 140,000 motorists, 92,000 transit riders, 600 bikers and 500 pedestrians between the two boroughs. Solomon's  Island is a major boating center located at the mouth of the Patuxent River, in southern Calvert County, Maryland.  The island is about an hour and a half drive from Washington DC or two hours from Baltimore.  Originally called  Bourne's Island  (1680), then Somervell's Island (1740), Solomons takes its name from 19th century  Baltimore  businessman Isaac Solomon, who established a cannery there shortly after the  Civil War . Solomon's home still stands on the front of the island.   The area has been inhabited since colonial times. The town now welcomes tourists with numerous marinas, seafood restaurants, gift shops, a boardwalk, a sculpture garden, the  Calvert Marine Museum  where visitors can climb atop a former lighthouse, harbor cruises, and occasional famous performer concerts outdoors. Deale is a waterfront fishing village located on the Western Shore of  Chesapeake Bay .   Rockhold Creek, one of four  tidal creeks located in Deale,   is the most commercial of the creeks and is home to several marinas and most of the charter fishing boats. Happy Harbor Restaurant, one of Deale's most famous landmarks, is located on Rockhold Creek.   For those of you who are Country Music lovers -  John and T.J. Osborne, who comprise the duo  Brothers Osborne , are natives of Deale. The photo below was taken one evening a few weeks ago, while enjoying a GNO at Skippers Pier, in Deale.    I do not know the owners of "Final Cut", but I sure enjoyed the view of it :)

While visiting with a former classmate of mine yesterday, we boated around the Magothy River, in the Annapolis area of Maryland.  Came across this cool lighthouse.  A little bit of history from Wikipedia: The  Baltimore Harbor Light , officially  Baltimore Light  and historically  Baltimore Harbor Lighthouse  is a privately owned  caisson lighthouse  in the  Chesapeake Bay  in  Maryland . First lit in 1908, it sits at the mouth of the  Magothy River , marking the channel which leads northwest to the opening of the  Patapsco River , which then leads into the  Baltimore harbor . At the time of its construction, it was the world's tallest caisson lighthouse. In June 2006, Baltimore Light was sold at auction to private owners by the  General Services Administration  for $260,000; the  U.S. Coast Guard  maintains rights to operate a light on the structure.
