The Baltimore Lighthouse

Image
While visiting with a former classmate of mine yesterday, we boated around the Magothy River, in the Annapolis area of Maryland.  Came across this cool lighthouse.  A little bit of history from Wikipedia: The  Baltimore Harbor Light , officially  Baltimore Light  and historically  Baltimore Harbor Lighthouse  is a privately owned  caisson lighthouse  in the  Chesapeake Bay  in  Maryland . First lit in 1908, it sits at the mouth of the  Magothy River , marking the channel which leads northwest to the opening of the  Patapsco River , which then leads into the  Baltimore harbor . At the time of its construction, it was the world's tallest caisson lighthouse. In June 2006, Baltimore Light was sold at auction to private owners by the  General Services Administration  for $260,000; the  U.S. Coast Guard  maintains rights to operate a light on the structure. Capitol, with an "O"

Image
"The  United States Capitol  is among the most symbolically important and architecturally impressive buildings in the nation. It has housed the meeting chambers of the House of Representatives and the Senate for two centuries. The  Capitol , which was started in 1793, has been through many construction phases."   https://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/wash/dc76.htm And it's Capitol, with an "O" :)   Photo taken at sunrise, 8/17/2017.

Wonderful Waterfalls

Image
Of the 13 public waterfalls in the State of Maryland, Muddy Creek Falls, in  western Garrett County (A ppalachian Plateau), is the h ighest free-falling waterfall in the State at 54 feet.  This waterfall is majestic, not matter what time of the year you got visit.  Muddy Creek Falls can be found in Swallow Falls State Park. http://dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/western/swallowfalls.aspx The photo below was taken August 4th, mid-day.  It was a perfect Summer day, temp's around 78, and no humidity (standard for a Garrett County Summer day).

Summer is for Sunflowers!

I took this fun photo at McKee-Besher WMA in Poolesville, Maryland. http://dnr.maryland.gov/wildlife/Pages/publiclands/central/mckeebeshers.aspx Fields and fields of sunflowers!  Sunflower fields seem to be a new thing for photographers.  I have seen increasingly more photo's of them the last few years!  I hope it stays that way.  Such fun :)  Check one out, if you have the time.

Mountain View Sunsets...

They call Maryland "America in Miniature" and Garrett County is part of the reason why. Have you ever been to the Mountains of Western Maryland?  It's about a 4 hour drive Northwest of Washington DC.  And the views are spectacular!   Garrett County is a three-season location.  The Fall offers beautiful changes in color.  The Fall Foliage is some of the best on the East Coast.  Winter is a joy, with plenty of snow and ski slopes.  Spring (well, we skip this season )  and Summer ... that is where Deep Creek Lake comes in.  60 miles of shoreline and lots of fun to be had.  boating, skiing, swimming, canoeing, jet-skiing, hiking... I could go on for a while longer, but I think you get the point...   The weather can be temperamental, so plan ahead, but be ready for change! So, after a quick weekend trip to the Deep Creek Lake this past weekend, I came home with this gem of a sunset photo!  Brrrrr it was cold on Saturday!  But it  produced some pretty skies.  Mounta

I've never met a sunset I didn't like...

East Coast Sunsets, or West Coast Sunsets... which are your favorite? Some of the best sunsets I have ever seen, have been right at my back door, here along the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland (see my first post).  Southern California certainly offers some of the best money can buy though!  Watching the sun go down either across the Pacific Ocean or over the mountains (or both, as in my photo below) is nothing short of spectacular.  But I must say that I believe the best sunsets are along the Gulf Coast of Florida...  You can just see forever... they are amazing 💖 Venice Beach, California Venice Beach Life Guard Station, California Clearwater Beach, Florida

Welcome!

Welcome to my photography and travel Blog... When was the last time you saw a sunset as lovely as this?  Pastel skies, palm tree's, sand.. looks like a tropical island, right?  Would you believe this is in Southern Maryland?  If you've never been, you need to go ASAP!
